Casa de Venezuela and Fleisher Art Memorial invite Latinx, Latin American and Caribbean visual artists to submit entries for a 2022 exhibition opportunity.
In 2022, these two Philadelphia-based organizations are partnering to create a series of artistic and cultural projects that preserve cultural heritage and foster placemaking as part of 360 Culture Lab, a project supported by The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage. This exhibition, to be hosted in Fleisher’s galleries in the summer of 2022, is one of the collaboration’s flagship projects.
2022 Theme
Inspired by the 360 Cultural Lab mission and taking stock of the massive exodus from Venezuela in the last decade, Diálogo 365: New Rhizomes takes the concept of placemaking as a departure point. We are asking artists to unpack the interpretations and possibilities of placemaking in our current state of uncertainty. In what ways do we strengthen or sabotage our sense of place? How are we rethinking what it means to connect to one another? How do we fortify our stems to build more equity as inbetweeners? Diálogo 365: New Rhizomes seeks a variety of visual perspectives from emerging and established artists of Latin American and Caribbean heritage.
Submissions for Diálogo 365: New Rhizomes are due by Sunday, May 1, 2022. The exhibition will run from August 12 – September 9, 2022 and will be co-curated by Diálogo 365 founder Andreina Castillo and Gerard Silva, Director of Exhibitions and Community Outreach at Fleisher. Co-Curator: Andreina Castillo
Andreina Castillo (she/her/hers) is the founder of the Diálogo 365 project. She curated Memorias in 2008 and the first Diálogo 365 exhibition for Casa de Venezuela in 2009, as well as Papeles: Are we what we sign? for Acción Colombia in 2012. Her background blends multidisciplinary experiences at visual (with an emphasis on museums) and performing arts organizations that range from independent curating and audience development to marketing and communications. Castillo has an MA in Arts Administration & Policy from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a BFA from the Corcoran School of Art (now the Corcoran School of the Arts & Design). She currently works at The Newark Museum of Art.
