"Teen Lounge classes are way more fun and more energetic than classes at my school.”

Teen Lounge is a FREE, drop-in afterschool program for students ages 13-19. It’s the perfect place to hang out, make art, and meet other young artists!
With guidance from the Teen Lounge Monitor, young artists are encouraged to develop their own creative program by choosing the artists with whom they wish to work. Projects are often collaborative and rely on a strong group dynamic. Projects explore media ranging from clay, painting, and silkscreen to stop-motion animation and darkroom photography.
Teen Lounge was recently featured by The Wallace Foundation as one of eight outstanding afterschool programs. Read more and download the full report.
Teen Lounge runs Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. when Philadelphia schools are in session. There’s no need to register, just stop by the front desk and sign in.
Teen Lounge teaching artists are selected through an RFP and proposal fair process. In light of COVID-19, all Teen Lounge programming has been moved online and it is seeking four teaching artists to share their knowledge, creativity, and inspiration in this new virtual realm. Your proposal should offer young people an exciting opportunity to explore a theme of relevance to their age group, or experiment with materials they can access easily at home. Please also keep in mind that many of our students are coping with a lot of change and uncertainty right now – so upholding a flexible, low-stress and uplifting environment for our youth is key!
The submission deadline is Thursday, October 1, for projects to be held in November and December. A virtual proposal fair is scheduled for Tuesday, October 6.Respond to the RFP
Layla Ehsan, Teen Lounge Coordinator
Teen Lounge is meeting virtually through Zoom on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 4:00-6:00 p.m. To join, please contact Layla Ehsan, Teen Lounge coordinator, for the link and credentials to join Teen Lounge on Zoom. Layla can be reached through email at email@example.com.
Free days! Teens decide how we spend this time, whether it’s playing games, watching a movie, working on independent art projects or exploring a new technique together.
Character Development: My OC and Me with Kathryn Briggs
Teen Loungers will learn how to create original characters (OCs) and then how to develop them into well rounded fictional figures set in a fully realized world. They’ll experiment with different kinds of characters, learning different systems for character creation and be asked to bring their character to life through drawing or collage and then give them a voice through comics or videos.
Arts Activate! With Valentín Sánchez-Stoddard
Teens will launch two separate fundraiser campaigns for local nonprofits to benefit the community (e.g. youth against incarcerations, food banks, undocumented immigrants, Black Lives Matter, etc.). Teacher V will work with teens to create artwork, introduce them to the Bonfire campaign platform, draft professional emails to local nonprofits to engage community members, and work budgets. Teens will be able to create their very own fundraisers for issues they care about with this workshop!
